Commercial drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), can operate on a range of frequencies depending on the type of drone and its purpose.
Most commercial drones operate on the frequencies in the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) bands. These frequencies are reserved for unlicensed use and are free for anyone to use, subject to certain power limitations and other restrictions.
The two most commonly used frequencies for commercial drone operations are:
2.4 GHz: This is a commonly used frequency band for Wi-Fi networks and other wireless devices. Many drones use this frequency for communication between the remote control and the drone itself.
5.8 GHz: This is a higher frequency band that is less crowded than 2.4 GHz, and is therefore less prone to interference. This frequency is often used for video transmission from the drone to the remote control or other devices.
In addition to these frequencies, some specialized drones, such as those used for military or scientific applications, may operate on other frequency bands, such as the L-band or Ku-band, which are reserved for licensed use.
