What's difference RSRP and RSSI

RSRP (Reference Signal Received Power) and RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) are both measurements of signal strength in wireless communication systems, but they differ in how they are calculated and their intended use.

RSRP measures the received power of the reference signal in a cellular network, which determines the radio link quality between a mobile device and a base station. RSRP considers only the power of the reference signal, which is a known signal transmitted by the base station, and is measured in decibels relative to one milliwatt (dBm). RSRP provides a more accurate measure of signal strength than RSSI, as it focuses specifically on the power of the reference signal used in the communication protocol.


On the other hand, RSSI is a more general measure of signal strength, which includes all the signals the device receives, both from the base station and other sources such as noise and interference. RSSI is measured in decibels and provides a rough estimate of the signal strength at the receiver, but it does not consider the signal quality or interference.


In summary, RSRP is a more precise and standardized signal strength measurement in cellular networks, while RSSI is a more general measurement that can be used in a wider range of wireless communication systems.
